          COUGAR
CAMP
is the second novel in the Buck Logan Suspense series set in the Northwest.  It continues to incorporate fact and fiction about cougars and includes new information that the author discovered after writing COUGAR HUNT.

The story includes a chapter about a woman that decided to go on a backpacking fly fishing trip to a sub-alpine wilderness area by herself, after her friends decided not to go on the planned trip at the last minute. The trip produces a chair gripping incident that was based after four actual incidents that the author studied.

When a cougar chases a prey animal into a clump of brush or a small thicket it may use a tactic of standing outside the area of refuge and hiss or snarl, trying to flush the animal out. This usually occurs at night.  In the four incidents the author studied there was a single group of two to four people using one tent. All were in isolated areas, with no other campers around. They experienced a cougar outside the tent, hissing for hours during the night. In two of the cases children were in the tent. The cougar obviously knew there were people inside the tent. In one of the cases where children were present the cougar came up to the campsite and began to harass the campers just before dark. In none of the cases did the cougar attempt to get into the tent. This is very different than what would occur in a similar bear incident, and there have been many documented. The bear will tear the tent apart and may actually jump on top of it.
